How To Install Mozilla's Boot To Gecko(B2G) OS on Samsung Galaxy S II GT i9-100

The Boot To Gecko(B2G) OS by Mozilla is not completed yet, but if you are attract to it by its sleek UI and also curious about its working then you might want to install it on your phone. Please know that this installation works on the Samsung Galaxy S II GT i9-100 and should not be attempted on any other phone. Also the setup is a bit complex so if you do not follow them to the letter you may end up with a bricked phone.

First make sure you have the necessary requirements on your PC for the setup. Although at first you may think we are joking you will see why the requirements are high. Anyway they are given Below:
  1. 64 Bit Ubuntu 11.10
  2. 4 GB of RAM
  3. 7 GB of Disk Space on 80 GB Hard Disk
The version available to be installed is still for testing only but if you want to try it out you can by following the tutorial.
  1. First you will need to build the environment for Boot To Gecko to run on your Samsung Galaxy S II i9-100. For that follow the instructions as on the Mozilla Developers site.
  2. After that download Boot to Gecko from here.
  3. After that to Setup Boot To Gecko follow these instructions.

Just found out there is a much easier and more familiar method to install Boot 2 Gecko on the Samsung Galaxy S II using Odin and just flashing an md5 file to your device.

Here is how you can do it.

  1. First download Odin from here.
  2. Next download the file that you need to flash to your device from here.
  3. Next just plug in your Samsung Galaxy S II while Odin is running. This will cause Odin to detect your device and a section will turn yellow. After that click on PDA and select the md5 file that you downloaded.
  4. Just click Start and then wait for the process to finish.
It's not yet working on other devices but hopefully will be soon.

This was the picture of the OS screen I got. I didn't want anyone to try a phone unless I was sure it will work on the phone.

For the 2nd method, the link on villainrom says "for the GT-i9100 Galaxy S2 (International Model). Do not attempt to flash this on any other variety of Galaxy S2!"

How do we know if a SII is "International Model" or not?

Thanks.
