Install Android 4.0.4 on Samsung Nexus S - Rooted and Stock

The Android ICS 4.0.4 update for Samsung Nexus S is out and so is the rooted ROM. You can update both Samsung Nexus S i9023 and  i9020-T with this ROM and is fast, simple and working. The Nexus S although one of Google's own devices and widely popular (at least when it was released) was really late in receiving its Android 4.0.4 update. Anyway it is here now and you can flash it to your device quick and easily. Of course in case you do not want to have a rooted firmware you can just select the stock update file in this tutorial instead and follow the other steps.

  1. First thing you need to do is select the firmware that you want to update to. If you want the stock ROM on your Nexus S download this file or for the rooted one download this file.
  2. Next just plug in your device in USB storage mode and copy the file to your SD Card. Next unplug the device and Switch it Off.
  3. Next you need to enter into Recovery Mode or Bootloader Mode(for Stock ROMs). You can do it by pressing and holding the Power and Volume Up button simultaneously. Now you can navigate using the Volume Keys.
  4. Select install zip from SD Card and select the zip file that you copied to your SD Card in step 2. Wait for the process to finish and then just Reboot.
That's it now you have successfully updated your Samsung Nexus S to Android 4.0.4 stock or rooted version. If have any doubts or encounter any problems with the process feel free to comment.
