Install ICS Beta on Sony Xperia Play

The Sony Xperia Play has finally received the beta version of ICS and here is a quick tutorial on how you can install it on your device. It is only a BETA version and supposed to be installed by developers but it is a simple process so why not test it out. It is not yet perfect but it is worth a try. The procedure requires just copying a few files to SD Card and flashing them with Command Prompt from your PC. Anyway without much delay here is how you can Install Android ICS Beta on Sony Xperia Play.

1. First thing you need to do is check your compatibility for the update. You can do this by checking if you can update your firmware to build number 4.0.2.A.0.42. If you can then it means your device is compatible. Next make sure you are updated to the above mentioned build number.
2. Anyway to begin first find out your IMEI No. If you do not know already then just dial  *#06#. After you note this down you need to check if your phone can be unlocked. For this dial #*#7378423#*# and then go to Service Info, Configuration and then Rooting Status. If its says Yes then you can continue with the tutorial. Download this file and extract it.
3. Visit this webpage. Scroll down and Hit Continue and Agree to Questions asked such as Are You Sure?. Then "read" the Legal Conditions and Accept it.  Next you will reach the Create Unlock Request Page. Then enter the Info requested by the page and you will receive a unique Unlock Code. Note it down.
4. From the extracted downloads of Step 2 open the Fast Boot Folder. Hold Shift Key and right click to get Shortcut Menu with Open Command Prompt Here Option. Click it. Now that you have Command Prompt Open plug in yur phone in FastBoot mode just as in step 2 then in Command Prompt type fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce getvar version . After wait and see if 0.5 is returned. If it is it means that your phone is properly connected after that type in  fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce oem unlock 0xKEY replaceing KEY with the nique Key you got for Unlocking. After that your phone is Unlocked.
5. Download ICS Beta for Xperia Play from here. Next extract the file in android-sdk/fastboot and then open Command Prompt there by holding Shift and then Right click. Then just run the below commands.
6. fastboot flash boot ..\Fastboot\Xperia_PLAY_ICS_beta\boot.img
   fastboot flash userdata ..\Fastboot\Xperia_PLAY_ICS_beta\userdata.img
   fastboot flash system ..\Fastboot\Xperia_PLAY_ICS_beta\system.img
7. Now just reboot your device and that's it. Now you have installed Android ICS Beta on Sony Xperia Play.
