The Value Pack XXJW4 update with Android 2.3.6 Firmware is out for the Samsung Galaxy S GT I9000 and here is how you can apply it. This update is a stock update and will not cause your device to become rooted. Of course we will also mention in this article on how to Root Samsung Galaxy S GT I9000 on XXJW4. Please do ensure that you are trying this out only if you have the GT I9000, do not try it on any other version as it may cause bricking of your phone.

  1. First thing you need to do is download the files that are necessary for the update, from here.
  2. Extract the contents of the file. Enter your phone into recovery mode by holding Power Home and the Volume Up Key together. Wipe the Data on the phone and also the Cache.
  3. Now just take out and put back in your phones Battery and now you need to access Download Mode, you do this by pressing and holding Power Home and Volume Down Keys. Now Run Odin which will be part of the zip you downloaded in Step 1.
  4. Now just plug in your device. There should be a yellow section now visible in Odin. Click on PDA.
  5. Next depending on whether you want stock or rooted firmware find the tar file that has "root" in its file name if you want to root or select the other tar file.
  6. Now just Click on Start and wait for it to finish.
That's it now you have successfully updated or rooted your Samsung Galaxy S GT I9000 on XXJW4. If you have any doubts comment below.
