How To Backup and Restore Chats on WhatsApp

In case you didn't know already WhatsApp actually automatically backs up your chats on a daily basis but in case you want to do it manually you can also do it. Backup of Chat messages on WhatsApp are stored on your SD Card automatically and can be accessed at any time. This history will not lost on updating your WhatsApp as it will remain on your SD Card. Backup of Chat Messages and also restoring can be done very easily and you can do it with just a couple of steps.

Here is the official description of the application:
WhatsApp Messenger is a cross-platform mobile messaging app which allows you to exchange messages without having to pay for SMS. WhatsApp Messenger is available for iPhone, BlackBerry, Android, Windows Phone and Nokia and yes, those phones can all message each other! Because WhatsApp Messenger uses the same internet data plan that you use for email and web browsing, there is no cost to message and stay in touch with your friends.
Backup is simple and here is exactly what you need to do.

  1. Run WhatsApp and then select Menu > Settings.
  2.  Click on More and Select Chat History Back Up.
  3. If you want to restore it on a new installation then it is simple. Find the Backed Up chats on your SD Card from the original installation.
  4. Now copy it to your new installation directory.
  5. If you have already installed WhatsApp re-install it in the same directory but this time choose to restore and select the directory to which you copied the backup in step 4.
That's it. It's quick and simple and I am surprised that few people know about it. If you have any doubts feel free to comment.

I have a nokia 5233, now the problem is i found a "MsgStore.bak.1" file on my phone memory in a folder called "wa". I moved the file to SD card and am planing on formating my phone memory and restoring factory setting because of millions of problems on my cell. Now if i move the file again from sd card to phone memory with the same name and everything will watsapp restore my chat once i install it?
