Install AOKP ICS 4.0.4 on Sony Xperia Play

The Sony Xperia Play recently received the Ice Cream Sandwich(ICS) Beta Update a while ago but not many Custom ROMs have been released on it. The Beta ICS update is pretty buggy and still only recommended for developers. This AOKP ICS 4.0.4 ROM however is much better than that with only few bugs such as no ability  to support Video Recording. However the developers will probably find a fix to this bug soon so you do not have to worry about the minor glitches.

According to the developers here is official list of what is working and what isn't on the AOKP ICS 4.0.4 ROM.

What works:

- Boot
- Camera
- Root
- Orientation
- Touchscreeen
- Sound
- Wi-Fi
- USB Debug
- GSM
- GPS
- Front Camera
- Data
- Gamepad
- Bluetooth
- USB Mass storage
- Touchpads
- Video playback
- Panorama

What does not work:

- Video Recording

Installing the ROM is quite simple and you can do it easily.

  1. First thing you need to do is make sure you have unlocked your Xperia Play. If you haven't then follow the instructions in this post to do so.
  2. Next you need to download the files necessary for the Custom ROM to be installed on your device. Do that from here.
  3. Copy this onto your phones SD Card and then switch OFF your device.
  4. Now just boot into recovery mode. Be sure to Wipe Data and Clear Cache just to prevent any errors. Now navigate to to .img file you downloaded onto your device and flash it. Just wait for the process to finish and that's it.
Now you have successfully installed AOKP ICS 4.0.4 on the Xperia Play. If you have any doubts about the process feel free to comment.
